  • Willington Garden Centre 21 December 2013

The Alma Singers were asked to sing in the Garden Room next to the ice rink. It was cold due to the ice rink and the cold weather, but there were flaming gas fires in tall glass tubes to help ward off the cold. The Ice Rink Bar was doing a roaring trade in cappuccino coffee due to the cold weather. People who had acquired a seat in the in the Cafe were reluctant to give them up so the audience was relatively static.

Two husbands had been persuaded to take round collecting buckets which we decorated with official Cystic Fibrosis Charity labels. One of our collectors had spent considerable time adapting a (new) bright red plastic mop bucket into a 'kosher' collecting bucket complete with cardboard overlapping funnels so that the donations would rattle into the bucket satisfactorily. The intrepid two set off to shake their buckets in the Garden Centre shop and were quite pleased with the results.
