The Alma Singers and Friends present a Concert of Light and Classical Music. This concert took place at Great Barford Village Hall on Saturday April 5th 7.30. It was organised by the Great Barford Bowls Club to raise money to improve facilities at the club. The still photographs displayed here were taken by Roy Dickinson of the Bowls Club.
In addition to many new songs from The Alma Singers we were pleased to welcome soloists Elspeth Attwood ('cello) and Karen Beer (oboe and cor anglais) who entertained us with a delightful selection of classical music.
Tessa Wood, our piano accompanist, spent a great deal of time rehearsing the 'Three Little Maids', our noble volunteers, in strictest secrecy, before the concert. She also sourced their costumes. Choreography was by Yvette Wooding. The 'Maids' enjoyed themselves tremendously, acting the fool and teasing members of the audience on their way in before mounting the stage to continue the fun whilst singing 'Three Little Maids From School' from The Mikado, to the delight of all.
The Alma Singers were lead by David Ewbank, who, sadly, has now conducted his last concert for us as our Musical Director. He is leaving to pursue his musical career with a Bedford Orchestra. We wish him well and hope to see him perform with them soon.
